frankies 457

Frankies 457 holds a special place in our hearts. It’s the place we celebrated my first birthday in New York, our engagement and other special occasions. There’s just something so nice and cozy about the atmosphere that make it special… that and the food is just so delicious. This weekend we made another trip to Frankies with Aaron’s parents.

There’s almost always a wait to eat, but you can leave your phone number and head over to the wine bar across the street and wait. Once we received our table, we cozied up and prepared ourselves for a little indulgence. We always like to start off with a little cheese, because cheese is so dang good. This time we went with the evenings cheese special which was all cow’s cheese that included a parmesan, a softer tangier cheese and a soft “funky” cheese as the waitress described it. It also came with a really nice cherry walnut compote and some nice fruity bread. It was so, so delicious. They provide nice, crunchy Grandaisy Bread and their amazing homemade olive oil to snack on before your meal arrives.

For dinner, I got a little daring and ordered something new for the first time ever. It’s a bit embarassing, but I just fell in love with the house-made gnocchi and never looked back. But I decided it’s time for something new and tried the Pine Nut Polenta with Roasted Onion, Red Peppers and Sweet Sausage. Good decision. I think that may have been the first time I’ve ever had polenta, but it was super tasty, although I don’t think there was much of a pine nut flavor. The onions and peppers added really great flavor and texture to the creamy polenta, and the sausage… it was awesome. Aaron ordered the same thing he always gets, Homemade Cavetelli with Faiccos Hot Sausage and Browned Sage Butter. It’s a really simple but delicious dish.

We skipped dessert this time, but in the past we’ve ordered the Vanilla Bean Créme Brulee and the Tiramsu, both of which are ridiculously good. Mmmm, I love good food.

That is great that we are able to get the loans and this opens up completely new possibilities.

I must admit, I’ve been pouring over your restaurant posts in preparation for our trip and Frankies 457 was actually on my list to try. We were thinking about going here for my birthday dinner in fact! This post may have sealed it, unless your Brooklyn food tour gives me other suggestions.
