I had a cocktail at Freeman's a while back ago and it rocked my world. I mean really, this thing was so delicious I immediately memorized the ingredients so I could try to make my own at home. They call it Freeman's Cocktail, but because I'm not sure of the exact proportions I renamed it Pomegranate Dandy.
All it requires is some bourbon, a lemon, pomegranate molasses and bitters. Shake them all up and you've got yourself cocktail that tastes like the best grown-up candy ever. It's a little sweet, a little sour but it's all good. Have a great weekend! Cheers!
Pomegranate Dandy
inspired by Freeman's Cocktail
serves 1
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz pomegranate molasses
2 oz bourbon
lemon peel, for garnish
dash of bitters
ice
1
Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for 15 seconds.
2
Strain into a glass.
3
Using a knife, cut a 2-3 inch piece of lemon peel avoiding the white pith as much as possible. Gently fold it so the outsides touch each other and squeeze the oils over the drink. Fold the other way and garnish the side of the cup.

Cheers!

Ooo, boy, does this drink look dandy or what?! Delicious! I could use a good cocktail right now. Sorry I haven’t been around the past week; I had a friend in town, so I wasn’t able to be at my computer. I’m back now, though

wow, i made almost the exact thing this weekend but it was called “whiskey barrel punch” and i made it in a pitcher for a party. i macerated the lemon peels with superfine sugar first, then right before i served i topped it with a heavy splash of champagne. it was AMAZING. homemade pomegranate molasses are easy too! i got the exact recipe from an LA Times article.

Reminds me of a drink I had and loved at Death & Co called a Double Fill’er Up – they muddle pomegranate molasses with fresh mint and then shake with lemon juice and rye, strain and serve. Amazing stuff!
