happy hour: the concord

It’s been a good week. Weeks are rarely bad over here, but this week has been full of nice little surprises. This week’s happy hour is simple and special because it’s made with fresh concord grapes. I made it two ways, one with vodka, one with gin. Both are good, it really depends on your booze of choice.

the concord
makes 1

about 12 concord grapes, plus 2 for garnish*
2 oz vodka or gin
dash of bitters

In a cocktail shakes, mash up concord grapes with vodka or gin and bitters until grapes are completely mashed.

Add a few ice cubes and shake for about 10 seconds.

Strain into a dainty glass and garnish with a few grapes.

*you can also use 1 1/2 oz concord grape juice

oven-fried sweet potato fries

I have a thing with fries. I love those crispy little sticks but it seems so often when I try to make them at home they’re not quite what I’m looking for. I found a cure for my regular fries (if you haven’t tried this recipe, trust me they’re awesomely delicious), but I still haven’t found a great way to make sweet potato fries. Then last week as I was cruising along over at serious eats I saw this super simple recipe for oven fried sweet potatoes that promised to be crispy. It didn’t take much to convince me that it was time to try it out.
