4 ounces (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup buttermilk
2  cups fresh sour cherries, pitted

    I am such a fan of this recipe. I made a double batch this weekend for a party from frozen berries from last summer. Freeze a couple of quarts before they leave the market and make it all year long!

    This looks delicious. I made a similar buttermilk cake with a strawberry and rhubarb compote layer, topped with crumble. It was lovely.

    yes, i think you could use blueberries or bing cherries due to their juiciness. i think strawberries would work too, but i think the cake might be drier. good luck!
